Obituary of Roger Alan Palmer

Roger Alan Palmer, 71, of rural Edna, Kansas passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at his home.
Roger was born on March 5, 1949 at Webb City, Missouri to Walter Joe and Carol Jean (Gordon) Palmer. He grew up northeast of Coffeyville, Kansas where he attended Clymore School for eight years and graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont.
On June 22, 1968 he married Donna Pippin at the Angola United Methodist Church. The couple made rural Edna their life long home.
Roger was a jack-of-all trades; he was skilled in many areas of work and could do just about anything. In 1966 he went to work for Muller Construction in Coffeyville where he worked general construction for around three years. In 1969, Roger began his career with John Deere Coffeyville Works (formerly Funk Mfg.) where he was an assembly supervisor before becoming a machinist until his retirement on January 20, 2009.
Roger was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Keystone Masonic Lodge #102 A.F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite Freemasonry of the Southern Jurisdiction in Ft. Scott, Kansas. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being a cattle rancher.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Donna Palmer of the home; son, Robert Palmer and wife Jennifer of Mound Valley, Kansas; daughter, Angela Whicker of Coffeyville, Kansas; siblings, Gene Palmer and wife, Norma of Mound Valley, Kansas, Alice Kirkland and husband, Jim of Edna, Kansas, Jerry Palmer and wife, Linda of Carthage, Missouri, Tim Palmer and wife, Lynn of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, two grandsons-in-law; two step granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Carol Palmer; daughter-in-law, Kandy Palmer and grandson, Briar Palmer; brothers, Joe and Gary Palmer.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville. Pastor Brett Rousselle will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge - Kansas City, Missouri 1120 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105 or to the Johnson Cancer Research Center Kansas State University, 1 Chalmers Hall, 1711 Claflin Rd.
