Charles Dwane Smith, age 82, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 at his home in Coffeyville, Kansas.
Charles was born on September 8, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Charles Thomas and Ruth Marie (Gilbert) Smith. He grew up in Coffeyville where he attended local schools and graduated from Field Kindley High School.
Charles proudly served his country in the Army National Guard until receiving his honorable discharge in 1966. He worked for Pressure Cast Products where he held the position of Plant Superintendent until his retirement in 2003.
On December 27, 1963 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Bonnie Uppendahl. The couple made their home in Coffeyville where they raised their children. Charles attended Westside Christian Church and was baptized in the Dearing Christian Church. He enjoyed his visits before services with a couple of his buddies and even though he was a man of few words, he enjoyed the friendship of so many.
Charles played baseball in his youth and was happy to share that he once was in a game with Stachel Paige. He was a grade school coach of football and basketball and coached Little League Baseball for several years. He was still called Coach by many of those young people. Charles enjoyed fishing with his family and friends. In recent years he had an old classic car that he would take to local car shows in the area.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Bonnie Smith of the home; sons, Rock D. Smith and wife, Mary Nyhuis , Wesley E. Smith and wife, Patty Jo all of Coffeyville; five grandchildren; two great grandsons and a great granddaughter that is expected to arrive very soon; brother, Bill Smith and wife, Marilyn of Coffeyville, Kansas.
