Ann Elizabeth Currier, 52, of Coffeyville passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Coffeyville.
She was born July 19, 1960 at Neodesha, KS to William Walter "Bill" and Ethel Ann (Chaney) Currier. Ann grew up and attended school in Coffeyville, graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1978, she attended Coffeyville Community College, and Kansas State University before transferring to Southwestern College in Winfield where she received her Bachelor Degree, she later attended Pittsburg State University where she received her 2nd Bachelor Degree.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Ann was employed as Assistant Manager at the Coffeyville Save-A-Lot Store for several years.
Ann loved to play Tennis, while in high school she played Tennis and Basketball. In tennis she was SEK number one singles champion, second in regionals and fourth in state, in college she was a number one singles player at CCC, KSU, Southwestern College. In 1978 she was a member of the John Newcombe International Touring Tennis Team and played in England. While playing basketball in high school she was selected as first team SEK, most valuable player SEK, and second team All-State by the Wichita Eagle. Ann was also named Female Athlete of the Decade for the 1970's. In 2009 she was a inaugural inductee of the Field Kindley High School Hall of Fame class. In 2010 she was an inductee of the Southwestern College Hall of Fame.
Survivors include her parents, Bill and Ethel Currier of Coffeyville; one sister, Kathy Henderson and husband, Gary of Coffeyville; one niece, Heather Lowrance and husband, Jeff of Auburn, NE; and two great-nephews, Max Lowrance and Wyatt Lowrance of Auburn, NE.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Robert "Bill" Currier on March 10, 2012.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.
The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
