Coffeyville - Daniel H. Bryant, 66, Atascocita TX passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 18, at Medical City Hospital in Dallas TX. Dan was born June 10, 1946 in Kansas City KS His parents were Daniel J. and Lillian Rowland Bryant of Coffeyville KS. His parents died when Dan was a youngster and he was raised by his grandmother Mary Rowland of Coffeyville. He attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley Memorial High School in 1964. He graduated from Coffeyville Community College in 1966 and completed his BA in Zoology in 1968 at the University of Kansas. After graduation, he applied for Officer Candidate School with the United States Marine Corps where he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. He was selected for F4B Phantom Jet training as a Radar Intercept Officer and completed Air Combat Tactical Training in 1971. He flew missions over Laos and Cambodia during his year of duty in Viet Nam. After returning from overseas, he was assigned to Camp Pendleton CA until his discharge in November 1973. He returned to college and completed his MBA with an emphasis in Accounting from Pitt State University in 1976. He returned to Coffeyville and worked for Funk Manufacturing. He passed his CPA exam in 1980 and opened a private practice, and then later he worked as Controller for Coffeyville Memorial Hospital. He was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart Janet E. Lewark on March 15, 1980. They moved to Cleveland TX where he served as Controller for Cleveland Hospital for three years when he was selected as CFO for Health South Hospital in Houston. In 1994, Dan served as Environmental Coordinator for the Western Region of the USPS in Denver CO for three years. He returned to Houston to work as Corporate Tax Manager for Suburban Homes until his death. Dan was a voracious reader who enjoyed all types of books. He truly loved his dogs! He was admired by friends and family for his musical talents on numerous and varied instruments on which he was self-taught. Dan is survived by this wife Janet, and one daughter Paige E. Bryant of Dallas TX. mother-in-law, Billie Lewark-Wood, Dearing KS, brother-in-law Mike Lewark and his wife Mary, Pittsburg KS, nieces, Sarah Lewark-Cantu, Chicago IL, Susan Lewark, Merriam KS, Grace Lewark, Overland Park KS, nephew, Brock Lewark OP KS, and several cousins. A grave side service is scheduled for 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 23rd at the Veterans Pavilion in Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Martin officiating Friends may call on Wednesday, August 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends from 6:30-7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Viet Nam Veterans Scholarship Fund at Pitt State University, your local chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) or a charity of donor's choice.
