Sedan - Leah Mae Bever, 83, of Rural Sedan, Kansas, died Sunday (November 10, 2013) at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born April 28, 1930 in Sedan, Kansas to Ray White and Gladys (Jellison) White. She graduated from Sedan High School in the class of 1948. After high school, she completed her Associate's Degree from Coffeyville Community College. On December 24, 1951 she married Kenneth Bever in Sedan, Kansas. They made their home in the Sedan area all of their life. Leah Mae was an elementary teacher for five years before substitute teaching; she babysat and also was a teacher's aide before her retirement. Leah Mae was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan. She was involved with many organizations throughout the church including; ABW, Marjorie Sharp Circle, Bible School and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Survivors include her husband; Kenneth Bever of the home in Rural Sedan, Kansas; three daughters, Sherry Staton of Independence, Kansas, Susan Bever of Fredonia, Kansas, and Melinda Sinn and husband Greg of Manhattan, Kansas; one sister; Shirley Bever of Peru, Kansas; one brother, Johnnie White of Hamlin, Texas; five grandchildren, Christopher Staton, Amy (Staton) Barnhart, Janel (Sinn) Koons, Crystal (Sinn) Siebert, Brandi (Sinn) Crubel; four great-grandchildren, Landon Staton, Kaden Staton, Kale Staton, and Paxton Barnhart. She was preceded in death by two brothers; Ralph White and Delbert White and her parents. Church Services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Gene DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Moore Prairie Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church and contributions may be left in care of the David W. Barnes Funeral Home 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
