Obituary of French Hey

Coffeyville - French Hey, 79, of Coffeyville passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at his home. He was born May 23, 1931, at Coffeyville to Everett U. and Nellie (Fitzpatrick) Hey. French grew up in and attended school in Coffeyville graduating from Field Kindley High School in 1949, and Coffeyville Community College in 1951. French was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War. On November 30, 1951, he married Klinell Wells at Bartlesville, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Hawaii for several years while French served in the U.S. Navy. After he received has honorable discharge from the Navy they lived in Pittsburg while French attended Pittsburg State University where he graduated in 1957. While teaching school in Emporia, KS he attended Emporia State University receiving his Masters degree in 1963 and his Specialist degree in 1967. French was Assistant Superintendent in Hartford, CT, before returning to Kansas serving as Superintendent of U.S.D. #310 in Langdon, KS, and later at Kingman, KS where he worked until retiring in 1993. Following his retirement they returned to Coffeyville, where he worked for three years at Four County Mental Health as a Job Advisor case worker. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Lions Club, Gideon's, Coffeyville Community Foundation, Leadership Coffeyville, Promise Keepers, and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He also served on the Montgomery County Commission, and U.S.D. #445 School Board. French was a World Class Skeet Shooter placing 2nd in the World Champion Skeet Shoot; and an accomplished woodworker and wood carver, showing his work at the National Ducks Unlimited Show. Survivors include his wife, Klinell of the home; two daughters, Deborah Black of Panama City, FL, and Angela Ulsaker of Kingfisher, OK; a sister-in-law, Berta, Harrald of Caney; two granddaughters, Reagan Mashaney, and Danielle Moss; four grandsons, Seth Ulsaker, Brandon Black, Adam Black, and Daniel Black; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Stefan Ulsaker. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Coffeyville with Rev. John Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery with military honors conducted by V.F.W. Post #1022 and American Legion Post #20. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
