James Robert Apperson, 66, of Coffeyville and formerly of the Edna, KS area, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at his home.
He was born August 16, 1943 in Coffeyville to Boyd and Faye (Ross) Apperson. He grew up in rural Welch, OK, graduated from Labette County High School in Altamont, received his Associate Degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A & M in Miami, OK, and a Bachelor Degree from Oklahoma State University.
In 1962 he married Betty Spurgeon at Edna, KS. Following their marriage they made their home in the Edna area where Mr. Apperson farmed and worked at Farmland Refinery. In 1988 he moved to Coffeyville. Mr. Apperson retired from Farmland as Top Operator in the Coker Unit in February 2004. His wife preceded him in death in 2006.
James attended the First Baptist Church in Edna until moving to Coffeyville. He was a member of the Edna Masonic Lodge, Mirza Temple in Pittsburg, V.F.W. Post #1022 Men's Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion Post #20, and Eagles Aerie #2459. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing in a pool league. James loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Charlie Apperson of Scott City, KS; one daughter, Debbie Krouse and husband Brad of Joplin, MO; three grandchildren, Dani Apperson and Tanner Apperson both of Scott City, KS, and Briley Krouse of Joplin, MO; and significant other, Lexie McCoy of Coffeyville. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Andy Apperson; one brother, Ross Apperson; and one sister, Barbara Mays.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2010 in the Edna First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett, KS.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital or the Faye Apperson Exhibition Building at the Craig County Fair Grounds in Vinita, OK; contributions may be left with the funeral home or mailed c/o David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 306 North Cline Road, Coffeyville, KS 67337.
